ABOUT LILY SAGE

Lily Sage is a Jamaican-American writer and poet whose first poem was written in kindergarten, telling the story of a “big fat cat who sat on a mat.” She then went on to write her first story, one year later, about a little girl finding her way at a new school. The writing never stopped from there. Sage studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she discovered her love of magical realism and lyricism. These style elements are now notable features in her image-centered writing.

Sage’s work focuses on individual and community healing, self-exploration, and self-discovery, often through lenses of nature, memories, and child-like wonder. She takes inspiration from those who have been pioneers of thinking both in the past and present day. It is Sage’s hope that we as a community will grow to approach life and others with open minds, like those of pioneers, and she aims to inspire this hope in others with her work.

While Sage primarily identifies as a poet, she also writes short stories and the occasional screenplay. Sage now lives in Atlanta, Georgia where she performs her poetry at conferences, retreats, and other events. Previous work has appeared in Mouth Magazine and Black Quota. Lily Sage’s debut poetry collection, Seasons Change, will be available in November 2025.
